When researching his book The Russian Refugees, Mike Andruff reflected on other refugee experiences to compare and contrast to his family’s. One such refugee story came from an old school chum he met in Port Alberni. Bill Majercsik. Bill’s family came from Hungary during the Hungarian revolution. His father documented their Journey to Freedom in a journal which follows. Bill went on in life to serve his new country in the Canadian Armed Forces. He now lives a quieter tennis life in Qualicum B.C. Many a reader will likely identify with these earlier refugees journeys to freedom.
